  • Three-year-old Nepali singer stuns everyone with release of a solo album

    Atithi Gautam KC, a three-year-old girl from Kathmandu, has stunned everyone in Nepal with her outstanding talent as a singer and is now set to enter her name on the Guinness Book of World Records.

    Born in Lalitpur, Jawalakhel to a singer father Uddhav KC, Atithi has recently released a solo album with nine songs. She is truly a gem for the family with such an outstanding talent at such a young age.

    According to her father, Atithi started singing at the age of two, imitating her sister.

    Atithi has performed live on Nepal Television and other radio stations. Her father plans to register her name on the Guinness Book of World Records.

    Dr. Prem Adhikari, current elected President of Nepalese Society of Texas, spoke at the Fourth Regional NRN Conference in Houston, Texas on May 29, 2010. The video below has the speech he gave at the event where he talked about issues related to NRNs, NST and its activities in DFW area and formation of SARC for collecting Student Fund to help Nepali students in various colleges and universities at times of emergencies.

  • Bhabika Joshi Recognized by NRN NCC of USA

    Bhabika Joshi is a very talented Nepali writer currently residing in Keller, Texas who has already penned a book (Mortal – Hayden Roux Chronicles) at a very young age of fourteen. She was recognized by NRN National Coordination Council of USA for her exceptional accomplishment as a young writer at the Fourth Regional NRN Conference in Houston, Texas on May 29, 2010.

    Bhabika Joshi was featured as Personality of the Month for September 2009 on our website and she also writes weekly articles for TexasNepal Blog.

    We, TexasNepal.com team, would like to congratulate her on her accomplishment and wish her good luck with her upcoming book.

  • 12 killed in a massive shooting at Fort Hood, Texas

    UPDATE – The gunman previously reported to be killed is not dead and is now in army custody. Follow the link at the bottom of the page for detailed up-to-date news report from CNN.

    It is reported that eleven people including a gunman were killed in a shooting that took place today at the Fort Hood military base in Texas.

    The gunman was a soldier stationed at the base and has been named as Major Malik Nadal Hasan by the army. He was about to be sent to Iraq.

    Ten of the dead were soldiers and the other one was a civilian police officer. The motive for the shooting is still unknown and investigation is ongoing with the base locked down.

  • NST Election 2009 Results and Video Reporting

    Nepalese Society Texas election 2009 concluded yesterday at midnight with a record turn out of voters, numbering to over 1700.

    The polling held at Nepalese Community Center in Irving lasted for 16 hours. DfwNepal.com team interviewed several participants and got mixed feed backs regarding NST and the election. Most of them seem to know very little about NST and were voting for the first time ever. According to NST election committee member Kumod Rimal, this year’s election was very organized and successful compared to the previous ones. He also added that the participation of young voters had increased by a very large number.

  • Nepali guy sets Guinness World Record

    Rohit Timilsina, 25-year-old Nepali has recently set a new world record and put his name on the Guinness Book of World Records. He accomplished the record by holding 21 tennis balls in his single palm. A Frenchman named ARnand Desch had previously held similar record by holding 19 balls in his palm.

    Mr. Timilsina is a school teacher by profession and also holds a black-belt in Karate. He says he had been wanting to set a world record since he was in eight grade. Ten years of hard work has finally paid off and he now does have a world record and his name on the Guinness Book of World Records. His name will be published in 2010/11 edition of the Guinness Book.

  • Nepali guy drowns and dies in Irving, Texas

    Mr. Sagar Nath Panta died today (August 4, 2009) at Baylor hospital in Irving, Texas. He was admitted to the hospital on Sunday afternoon after he drowned himself in a swimming pool in his apartment complex.

    Mr. Panta was a former resident of Sabal Bahal, Kathmandu, Nepal and had recently moved to Texas with his family including his wife Kamala Pant, son Suraj Ballav Panta (19) and Kritika Panta (17). Panta family arrived in Texas on June 21st 2009 just 45 days ago via the Diversity Visa program. They were still trying to get used to their new home.

    mknNow everybody can follow on updates from Singha Durbar via newly launched website for the Prime Minister of Nepal, Madhav Kumar Nepal. The website is said to give easy access to people about the activities from the office of the Prime Minister. It also lets visitor send feedbacks directly to the PM’s press adviser.

    We think it is another step towards better government. With the technological advancement everyday and websites getting popular for all kinds of information sharing, this website is definitely a welcoming step for all of us who like to keep updated with news from Nepal. The site features news related to various functions and activities the PM attends, his speeches, audio and visual recordings of programs and photo galleries as well.
